(Taichung News) The Local Tax Bureau, Taichung City Government reminds vehicle owners that the 2026 Vehicle License Tax will be levied starting April 1, with the payment deadline falling on April 30. Tax bills were mailed out in late March. Vehicle owners are advised to check whether they have received them and to make payment within the deadline to avoid penalties for late payment. The Local Tax Bureau explained that, for the convenience of taxpayers, payments may still be made at authorized tax collecting financial institutions or convenience stores within three days after the payment deadline ends, that is, by 24:00 on May 3, 2026, provided that the tax amount is NT$30,000 or less in the case of convenience stores. Payment may also be made by ATM, online, or telephone voice service using a chip financial card, a checking (savings) account, or a credit card. For the various payment methods, please refer to the payment instructions on the tax bill, or visit the bureau’s website and refer to the “Vehicle License Tax Levy” section. However, although no late payment surcharge will be imposed for payments made between May 1 and May 3, such payments will still be considered overdue cases. The Local Tax Bureau further explained that taxpayers who choose to pay by credit card, checking (savings) account, or chip financial card may use a mobile app to scan the TWQR code on the tax bill and link directly to the online tax payment service website for payment. Alternatively, they may download the app of a mobile payment service provider that offers tax payment services and scan the TWQR code or the three-segment barcode on the tax bill to complete payment. They may also visit the Local Tax Online Declaration website (https://net.tax.nat.gov.tw) and enter the vehicle license plate number together with the national ID number or business administration number to check and pay the tax online directly, which is both time saving and convenient. The Local Tax Bureau reminds taxpayers that if they have not received or have lost their tax bill, they should, before the payment deadline, promptly use the multimedia information kiosk at a convenience store, such as ibon at 7-Eleven or FamiPort at FamilyMart. After entering the vehicle license plate number and completing verification with the national ID number or business administration number, they may print out a payment slip and take it to the counter for payment. They may also apply for reissuance through the bureau’s video conference service, online application service (https://onestop.tax.taichung.gov.tw), any of its eight branch offices, or the service counters stationed at motor vehicle offices or stations. For related questions, please call the bureau’s toll-free service hotline at 0800-000321 or dial 04-22585000 and press 1 to reach the telephone customer service center, where dedicated staff will provide detailed assistance.
