(Taichung News) AI smart technology is one of the hottest topics today and also serves as a key driving force behind the advancement of urban digital governance and the upgrading of public services. The Taichung City Government Local Tax Bureau pioneered Taiwan’s first “Local Tax AI Customer Service Portal: Opening Up One-Stop Tax Services.” Following its win at the 8th Government Service Award, it has once again received recognition with the 2026 Smart City Innovation Application Award, and it is also the only tax authority to receive the award this year. The award ceremony was grandly held on March 17 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, where Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao personally presented the award, and Director Shen Cheng-An of the Local Tax Bureau attended to accept it.
Director Shen stated that the “Local Tax AI Customer Service Portal” was planned and developed by the Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government in collaboration with the Fiscal Information Agency, Ministry of Finance. By integrating an AI conversational engine and natural language processing technology, it provides real-time and accurate local tax consultation services, and also incorporates functions such as tax estimation, online application, and electronic tax payment, helping the public quickly obtain tax information, lowering the threshold for understanding tax laws, and creating a one-stop smart tax service environment that better responds to public needs.
The Local Tax Bureau stated that a total of 97 entries were submitted for this year’s Smart City Innovation Application Award, and only 22 ultimately received awards, making the competition extremely intense. The “Local Tax AI Customer Service Portal” stood out and won recognition from the judges, demonstrating not only the maturity of applying AI technology to public services, but also highlighting the Local Tax Bureau’s efforts in promoting smart government and enhancing internal administrative efficiency.
The Local Tax Bureau added that it will continue to leverage emerging AI technologies to advance smart cities and expand the application of AI in both external services and internal operational processes, making smart technology a trusted tax assistant for the public while continuously improving service quality and governance effectiveness.
