Land value increment tax refunds: 5-year monitoring period for repurchased property

(Taichung News) The Taichung City Government’s Local Tax Bureau noted that landowners who re-purchase land for self-use residential purposes and receive a refund of the land value increment tax must not transfer the land to others, rent it out, use it for business, or move their household registration from the land within five years of registration. If any of these actions occur, the refunded tax will be reclaimed.
The Local Tax Bureau added that self-use residential land is defined as land where the landowner, their spouse, or direct relatives have registered their household with the land, and the land is not rented out or used for business. Once the tax refund for repurchasing self-use residential land is approved, the Bureau will monitor the land for five years, conducting annual checks to ensure it hasn’t been transferred, rented, used for business, or had the household registration moved. If any of these conditions are violated, the Bureau will reclaim the previously refunded tax. The Bureau advises the public to adhere to these rules to protect their rights and interests.
