House Tax Levied in May; Multiple Electronic Payment Options Make Payment Easy and Convenient

(Taichung News) The Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that house tax for the 2026 tax year will be levied beginning on May 1. The payment period runs from May 1 to May 31. As the deadline falls on a holiday, it will be extended to June 1. Taxpayers are reminded to complete payment within the prescribed period to avoid overdue surcharges.
The Bureau explained that house tax bills have been entrusted to Chunghwa Post for mailing in batches. If members of the public still have not received their tax bill or have accidentally lost it, they may apply for a reissue from the tax authority with jurisdiction over the location of the house, or log in to the Local Tax Online Filing Portal using a Citizen Digital Certificate, an Industrial and Commercial Certificate, a Financial Certificate, a registered National Health Insurance card, or the Mobile Citizen Digital Certificate, TW FidO, to make inquiries and payments online.
The bureau further clarified that in addition to making payment at financial institutions, with post offices excluded from collection services, taxpayers with an amount due of NT$30,000 or less may pay at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart convenience stores, or print out a payment slip through a kiosk and make payment at the counter. They may also inquire and pay online through the Local Tax Online Filing Portal. Citizens may also register for an electronic payment account with an electronic payment institution and use a mobile app to scan the QR code on the tax bill for payment, or use the mobile app of a bank or service provider that offers mobile payment for taxes to pay by credit card or chip financial card. Paying taxes electronically makes the process quick, easy, and convenient, all without leaving home.
In addition, taxpayers who have already applied for tax payment by direct debit from a designated deposit account are reminded to keep a sufficient balance in the account before June 1 to ensure successful deduction. The Bureau specially reminds the public that tax collection authorities will not call to ask for confirmation of account balances. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and guard against fraud.
The Bureau also reminds taxpayers that a surcharge of 1 percent will be imposed for every three days of overdue payment, up to a maximum of 10 percent. To avoid unnecessary additional costs, members of the public are urged to pay on time within the deadline.
